HELOC in Mobile, Alabama
Mobile has deep roots on the Gulf Coast, with oak-lined historic districts downtown and neighborhoods stretching west toward the suburbs. I help Mobile homeowners use their equity with care, whether that is restoring an old house or getting ready for hurricane season.
The short answer
Can I get a HELOC in Mobile?
Yes. Mobile homeowners in Mobile County can use a HELOC to borrow against the equity in a primary residence, second home, or investment property, subject to underwriting review. Your first mortgage and its rate stay in place. The line amount depends on your home value, what you owe, and the program CLTV limit.

Rates and terms as of October 23, 2026.
HELOC rates are variable and can change monthly, on the first day of the month, when WSJ Prime changes. The rate is the WSJ Prime index (currently 7.00%) plus a margin that is set at closing based on property type, credit score, and combined loan-to-value, and does not change. For a HELOC, the APR is the index plus the margin and does not include costs other than interest. The APR will never be lower than 4.00% or higher than 18.00%. 3-year draw period with interest-only payments, followed by a 17-year repayment period of principal and interest. At closing you draw at least 75% of your approved line. Closing costs apply, and you will get an itemized estimate before you commit. Rates and terms as of October 23, 2026. Subject to underwriting review.

How Mobile homeowners use their equity
Every plan is different. These are a few of the ways I see homeowners here put a line of credit to work.
Hurricane-hardening your home
Some Gulf Coast homeowners upgrade to a stronger roof, storm shutters, or impact windows. A HELOC may be one way to fund that work, and some insurers may consider those upgrades.
Restoring a historic downtown home
Homes in Oakleigh and De Tonti Square often need specialized repairs. A line of credit may let you pay for each phase, and exterior work in historic districts often requires review.
Repairs after a storm
Insurance claims do not always cover everything. Having a line of credit already open may help bridge gaps, subject to the terms of your program.
How it works
Three steps to your credit line
Step 1: Apply or call
Start the short application or call me. You'll answer a few questions about the property, what you owe, and how you plan to use the funds. It typically takes a few minutes.
Step 2: Review your options
I go over your line amount, rate, and terms in plain English, based on what we have today, and answer every question before you move forward.
Step 3: Approval and draw
After underwriting review, property valuation, and signing, your line opens and your initial draw is funded (at least 75% of the line). Funds can be available in as soon as 5 to 15 days. Timing depends on your file.
FAQ
Mobile HELOC questions
Don't see your question? Ask me directly. That's what I'm here for.
Can I use a HELOC to put a stronger roof on my Mobile home?
Yes, a roof upgrade may be a good use for a HELOC, subject to underwriting review. Some Alabama homeowners look into FORTIFIED roof standards, and some insurers may offer savings for them. Check with your insurance agent, and I can help you plan the financing side.
Do you serve homeowners on the Eastern Shore, like Daphne and Fairhope?
Yes, I work with homeowners in Daphne, Fairhope, Spanish Fort, and across Baldwin County as well as Mobile. Coastal homes may have flood or wind insurance requirements, depending on location. I will help you understand how those costs factor into the review.
Will a HELOC change my current mortgage or rate?
No. A HELOC is a separate second lien that sits behind your first mortgage, so your current loan, rate, and payment stay the same. That is the main reason homeowners with a low first mortgage rate look at a HELOC instead of a cash-out refinance, which replaces the whole loan.
How is a HELOC rate set, and can it change?
A HELOC rate is variable. It equals an index, the WSJ Prime (currently 7.00%), plus a margin set when you open the line based on property type, credit, and CLTV. The margin stays the same. When the index moves, your rate and payment can move with it, but never above 18.00% or below 4.00%.
How long does it take to get HELOC funds?
Based on current terms, funds can be available in as soon as 5 to 15 days. Timing depends on your property valuation, title work, and how quickly documents come back, so treat it as an estimate, not a promise.
